bodie beach trip

There's a new airline in Baton Rouge - Vision Airlines - and they were offering promotional rates to Destin. Lcuky us, my parents were going to be in Destin Memorial Day weekend. So, Eden and I flew down.

The newness of the airport lasted the entire hour we had to stand in line and wait on our boarding passes as well as the 2 hour delay to get on the plane ... she really just loved being there. We ran up and down the hall. We jumped off tables. We ate a $2 orange. We washed our hands 34 times. We drank out of the water fountain enough to wet through 2 shirts.

But, we did finally get to Destin. And it was beautiful!

She did much better this trip - she loved the sand and the water. She wanted someone to hold her under her arms and take her out into the deep water, and she really liked to ride the waves into shore.

Her favorite part, however, was seeing family...
while chilling out on the beach...
...and playing in the sand, under the tent.
Did I mention she was in love with the waves? (She even learned to turn sideways when a big one comes - something I learned around that age from my Big Daddy.)

Every morning was the same - wake up, get on a cute bathing suit, put up her hair, lather up with sunscreen, and get someone to take her down to the beach.

In the afternoon, Nona had some projects to do. She sat down with this paint set and painted on all of hte paper that Nona bought in about 30 minutes.

Overall, we had a GREAT time. Eden kept saying she wanted to stay ... and, when we got back ... "I can't wait to fly on a plane again!" Not sure if she now equates flying on a plane with the beach or if the plane really was that fun.

I should have checked.

I thought I heard the water running, and I thought, "I should go check on that."

But, I was sitting at the computer in the extra room - by myself.
Lydia was sleeping in her chair.
Eden was being quiet during quiet time, supposedly in her room.
And, if I went to check on her and she was doing something bad, then I'd have to deal with it, and my quiet time would be over.

So, I sat there for just a few more minutes.

Then, she showed up in the extra room with her mischevious/proud/are-you-gonna-be-happy-with-me smile saying, "Come see, come see"

[Side Note: E often asks us, "Are you happy?" after she's done something she shouldn't and we're dealing with it. It's like she's asking "Are things ok now? You're not mad at me any more, right?"]

[Side Note 2: Everyone here says "come see," although it sounds French when they say it, like "comme ci." They use it instead of saying "come here" or as I would say "com'ere." It can mean come see what I did, come over here to me, let me show you something, aw honey I'm sorry you're hurting/come to me, etc. Eden uses it all the time. Is it something in French? I should look it up.]

She said she had something to show me in the hall and in her room ...

Where did she get this idea?

She had taken pieces of paper, gotten them wet in the sink, and then "pasted" them to the hallway door, her windows, and tile in the bathroom. At least it was just water. We talked about not taking anything wet into her room and that wet things could only go on tile like in the bathtub.

Probably shouldn't have taken pictures of it, and, yes, I probably should have checked.

Cummert, Keemp, Shoomp, Lou, Janis, Jealous, Janni ...

Lots of "friends" are around E everyday.  They have various names and descriptions - she really does think about it when you ask, "How old is so and so?" or "What color hair does she have?"

E's favorite imaginary friend these days is 5-year-old Cummert, who has been doing a lot of things lately. One funny one was tickling her which manifested itself in her shaking and laughing to herself as she walked out of the room :). Cummert also gets in trouble for standing up at the dinner table and various other sundry .
exploits.

Lou is from California and has blonde hair. "Pretend Eden" has brown hair and stayed with us so we wouldn't miss the real Eden while the real Eden went to Mississippi to stay with CC and Granddaddy.

They all are quite busy and lately have even been doing things that we could have sworn Eden actually did ;).

Of course, we have no pictures of them ... yet. Perhaps Eden will capture some with her big sister camera. Wait and see!

12 to 5

For her 7 week birthday this week, Lydia decided to skip one of her night-time feedings and slept from midnight until 5:22 a.m.

Yes, this is an amazing feat, and we were of course excited.

It was great. Really great.

Except for the fact that Eden woke up crying at 2 a.m.
and then crawled into the bed with us at 3:30.
Then, Lydia started grunting and moving around 4:30 until she really started to wake after 5.

But, at least we know it is possible. Oh, and the next day I stood on the scale with and without Miss Lydia -- she weighed in at 8.8 pounds.

making the garden

At some point in March, Eden and I spent a weekend planting a vegetable garden. We had to till...

... and pull up grass ...

... then go to the nursury and pick out plants.

Job well done!!!

one last trip

Not sure how we did not post this, but we didn't. So...

Right before Lydia was born Eden and I made a trip to Andalusia to visit with Nona II. It didn't take her long to warm up...

... or to find someone to read to her.

And, in the end, she relaxed with us on the back porch - a favorite hang out spot.

Overall, it was a nice visit, one we hope we can do again very soon.
