Times, they are a changin': The 3-month update.

On Friday, June 13, Eden turned 3-months old. Traditionally, Friday the 13th is a day for bad luck, horror films, black cats, and superstition. Luckily, with a 3-month old, you're rather oblivious to all of this. In fact, we had rather good luck.

We put Eden down at 9:45 (I went down as well). The next time we saw the clock it was 5:44 a.m., and Eden was sucking on her left hand. Ashley was the first to speak. "Did you feed her while I was asleep?" "No," I responded. "Did you?" "No."

That's right - a full night's sleep!!!

So what did we do the next night? First, we did not fix a bottle in anticipation of her not needing a 2:30 feeding. Then, we decided it was a good idea to stop swaddling her (primarily because she wiggled her way out of the swaddle the night before and woke up with her blanket close to her face). Apparently, she does not like being unswaddled as much. But, after 2 nights she has gotten back to sleeping 5-7 hours.

We think her sleeping through the night may have somethig to do with the fact that on her 3-month birthday she weighed in at 10 lbs 12 oz!!!

Compared to her original weight of 4 lbs 15 oz, she is now a chunky monkey. We can really tell her growth when we put her to sleep in her co-sleeper ...

Continuing the growing up trend, on Sunday night (Father's Day), Ashley and I decided to watch a movie. As we were watching, Eden began to talk. No prompting. Nothing but Eden deciding it was time to let Mom and Dad know that she was there and ready to have a conversation. Of course, it sounded more like "Eeeawwoohhuh" than an actual word, but it was loud and clear. We'll take it.

So now our normal nightly routine includes a bath for Eden, me putting Eden to bed whenever she gets sleepy (anywhere from 8:30 to 10:30), and Ashley going to sleep a bit later on Eden's side of the bed. There's no more bottle prep in the heating pad (a little trick for originally keeping 2-3 bottles ready for the multiple night-time feedings on my shift, which I can't take credit for but certainly is ingenious) for us. Nope, now we're going to sleep and hoping we don't hear a peep out of the little one 'til the morning.

The times have definitely changed!
