Although the conference had officially started, neither Ashley nor I had presentations on Thursday so we decided to make a day at the Magic Kingdom. That morning I had a brief meeting at 8:00, so the rest had breakfast at Granddaddy's favorite breakfast buffet in the Dolphin, and we all headed for the bus around 9:00.
Eden Brooks specifically requested a "princess" dress and crown for her first day at Disney. Thankfully, the Easter dress Ashley had already bought was deemed to be a "princess" dress, and I found a fitting crown the night before after going to three stores within and around the hotel. And the crown also lit up.
Us walking to the front gate ...
...and documented evidence that we are inside the gates!
On our way to Disney we asked Eden who she wanted to see - "Pluto. He's my favorite because he is a dog. Dogs are my favorite."
Who was the first character that we saw? Yep...
Soooooooo excited! Thankfully, they just happened to have autograph books for sale nearby to grab while we waited in line ...
Lydia, not so much excited, though she played along.
After standing in line and getting a much needed autograph, we headed to the Dumbo ride via the Magic Kingdom train. I'm not sure, but I think someone told the folks at Disney that kids don't do well in lines. The Dumbo line contains a play area - you get a buzzer and play for 15 minutes or so, then go straight to the ride. Good stuff.
Eden had the controls. Ashley pretended that she was getting scared going so high. Lydia had a grand time waiting with CC & Granddaddy, this is until she saw us on the ride. Good stuff.
On our way to lunch we saw Alice and the White Rabbit. So, while Chip and I stood in line to get food, Eden Brooks stood in line to meet them.
At lunch, Eden Brooks saw that Ashley had a coke.
EB: Dad. It is a special occasion, right?
Me: Yep.
EB: So, (big eyes and smile) I can have coke?
Me: Yep.
I'll just say it this once - the whole you can have coke on special occasion things was NOT my idea.
No, Lydia, you cannot have Coke.
After lunch, we needed something peaceful to help our food settle...It's a Small World did the trick (though the song is still in my head and may never leave).
On our way around the park we ran into Cinderella's castle ... Lydia was enthralled with the wall. Kept going up to it, touching it, talking to it.
And on our way around the castle, we were interrupted by a parade and subsequent dancing in the street (there are lots of those there for some reason).
As we suspected, she did fall asleep in the stroller - noise and all.
While Lydia slept, EB, Ashley, and I stood in line to see a few princesses. She thought we were in line to see a movie.
45 minutes later when it was our turn to go into the short line, her face got really big when she realized she was meeting real people.
"Oh, you're 4!"
Rapunzel was her favorite - she drew several pictures of her afterward (and pretended to be her and sign the autograph book).
The two things on her list -- meet Pluto and meet a princess [she thankfully did not have a specific princess on her list] were now done. On the way out of the princess cave we stopped (though not really by choice) in the gift shop. She wanted a Pluto. No problem.
Another parade ...
... a few friendly games of checkers which Granddaddy says he let CC win ...
a few handfuls of cookies ...
... and a dizzying ride in the teacups later ...
we called it a day. A fun and somewhat exhausting day.
Not pictured is a rather large Tinkerbell balloon that lights up and a really funny video of Granddaddy begging Eden Brooks to stop the teacup. We'll post a really good story of the former and the video of the latter later. More Disney adventures to come soon.
