Lydia's Christening

This past Sunday, we had visitors down to help celebrate Lydia's christening.  She wore a gown from Ashley's family, made by Ashley's great-grandmother Laura Rowe ...

... one of Eden's braclets ...

... a gold, cross necklace from Ron and Rebecca Doyle, and was wrapped in my baby blanket.

She did great - Ashley walked her around before the ceremony, and Lydia was awake and peaceful during the actual ceremony. Lydia decided she was hungry just after the christening and then fell asleep just as the service was ending.

[Editor's Note: Thank you, Whitney, for the wonderful hair-do and necklace! I always look better when you are in town.]
We were blessed to have my immediate family in for the day (everyone but Sarah)

and most of Ashley's family, too (Uncle Bebop was still in OK).

Our friends Marie and Brett were also able to share the day with us.

The gown was exactly 90 years old, originally made in 1921 for Ashley's maternal grandfather, Laurence Rowe Crowder (he is the baby in the picture next to Lydia below), by his mother Laura Rowe. [[Sidenote ... Ashley's mom is named Laura Christy, Ashley is Laura Ashley, and for about 8 months Eden was going to be Laura Brooks, but we fell in love with the name Eden a few weeks before she was born. Guess we have finally made up for breaking the tradition]] Ashley's mom, Ashley, Ashley's sister, Whitney, and Eden all wore the dress for their christenings as well.

The baby in this picture just had a good lunch ...

After the service we came back to our house and had lunch then played doctor, read books, and watched Eden's swimming video while everyone had a turn at holding Lydia.
