She is talking more and more, and she enjoys saying all of our names ... Graham Bodie, Ashley Jones-Bodie, Eden Brooks Bodie, Lydia Laurence Bodie ... and she can actually say her L's now. Really cute -- she sticks her tongue all the way out to do it. Sometimes, she even says my name instead of Dad.
She also LOVES singing. She can do her ABCs, Jesus Loves Me, The Hello Song (Hello Sissy. Hello Sissy. Hello Sissy. It's nice to see you here. Repeat for everyone you can think of.), Twinkle, Twinkle.
She enjoys reading and has started to insist that she has a turn when EB reads her homework book at night. Mainly she points out all the boys, girls, dads, and moms in the pictures.
She can point out letters while we are driving. She now knows ALL her letters! And Smurfs. There is a billboard on the way to school that she comments on every time. "Snurfs, Daddy." Then lots of things I can't really understand followed by "Movie!"
She still takes a pacifier, ba-ba as she calls it. She knows she is not supposed to have it outside of her bed, so when you catch her she runs away smiling. She used it to calm down and sometimes runs to her bed to get it when she is upset. Her teachers said there are some kids ready to give up their pacis, but Lydia is NOT one of them.
And now that she is in a big girl bed, she has been getting out of it during bedtime. She will come out, and if you see her she will immediately put her hands over her mouth and start to laugh then run back to her room often shutting the door quickly behind her. She thinks she is funny.
She loves to pretend she is going places - mainly Nona and Big Daddy's or CC and Granddaddy's house or to work. She will pack up her silver grocery cart and tell you "bye" then stroll to the back door and knock. Then she turns around announcing "Hello! I here!" Too cute.
She likes to dress herself, and her favorite outfit (I promise I did not somehow subliminally concoct this) is her Auburn dress. "War Eagle, Daddy!" she says pointing thus asking to wear it to school. She is very proud to be an Auburn fan (at least as long as I can help it).
She is still a Mama's girl, often fussing when she has to stay with me or Ashley has to leave for some reason. She can often be heard screaming, "No Daddy! Only Mommy!" When I pick her up from school (like clockwork every Tuesday this entire semester) she flops herself on her nap mat and screams for Ashley. Fun times. She is better when they tell her prior to nap that I am going to pick up, but not always. Good to be the dad. I am reminded of that show, Dinosaurs, "Not the Mama!"
She loves to go to "Nicolas house" and asks for it or "Piper house" often. When we tell her she can't go she does the two-year-old-shuffle with real tears.
She likes to help me cook, stirring, pouring, and tasting - you always taste your creations! We even have a song that accompanies our time together. ... ... Somebody's cookin' with Daddy, somebody's cooking, toda-a-a-ay. ... ...
She loves to draw and paint. She does circles (on purpose) and the letter L (also on purpose). Other things are less discernible, but she draws us all pictures and brings them to us. Very sweet. "I draw you picture, Daddy." And she hangs them on the fridge, you know in case we might forget.
She loves her friends Eleanor, Aida, Benjamin, Merik, Charlie, Caroline, Reese, etc. and mentions them by name when we ask who she will see at school today. Sometimes she mentions her teachers.
One of her teachers also works at Whole Foods which continues to be our favorite grocery store. We go there on Tuesdays before picking up EB from school. When we see Ms. Kathy there, Lydia gets a huge grin and a hug. She also gets a snack - somehow she knows kids under 12 get them for free.
She likes ... loves ... is obsessed with ... may have a problem at some point parting with Ashley's iPhone. I disagree with the whole giving kids phones thing, and Lydia lets me have it for my policy. I do like what she learns from one app that Ashely downloaded - a word appears and monsters displace all the letters. Then you have to drag the letters back into their molds. She knows all her letters, perhaps in part because of this app, which also allows you to construct sentences (and she can do that, too - really just pattern matching, but impressive nonetheless). If she wants the phone and you say "no" be prepared with a ba-ba (see above).
She loves to play with her sister. Now that she can really talk, they are actually really playing. Often we can hear Lydia say, "No, I doc'or, You be patient."
She has a kind heart. Her teachers told us that she kissed a friends hand the other day when her friend got hurt. When Ashley told her that her head hurt, Lydia became very concerned and asked if she needed medicine. And, she is always checking on her sister.
She's still obsessed with one pair of leather, white Keds. She rarely ever lets another shoe go on her foot.
She still loves to build towers with Legos and dance in the den with her sister.
And finally, Lydia continues to be a blessing to our family - a sweet sister and a wonderful hugger. She brings smiles to our faces and joy to our heart. Happy two-and-a-half!!!
