paint

Over the past month, I've gone a little crazy with paint. In my defense, our house is so great that we didn't really need to do anything when we moved in, so I was itching to do something to make it feel like our house. So, I started painting. First up, I found the black cabinet paint in the storage room and finished out the shoe molding under this cabinet ...

Then, after looking at lots of photos and lots of houses around town, I decided our front door could use a little face lift.

It went from the same cream as the rest of the trim to a light turquoise blue ...

It seems much brighter in person. I almost wish it was just like the photo, but it's fun and cheerful for now. Also read a tutorial online about using chalk rubbed on the back of paper and tracing it to create an outline for painting numbers on the door. So, I decided to give it a try ...

Not a bad finished product.

Next up, we tried to paint something for the entry. It didn't turn out like I'd hoped, so it's currently white again, but that just gives us another painting session at some point.

The final painting weekend came when Graham and the girls headed out of town for 48 hours. My to-do list included painting our bedroom, the girls' closet door, a cabinet in the kitchen, and using leftover bedroom paint to cover the toyroom shelves that were originally made by my mom's dad when he was in school.

First up, the bedroom ...

I ended up doing two coats of the trim color only to be convinced that it really wasn't exactly right. So, I ran back to the paint store before it closed on Saturday afternoon and got a second color that the paint guru Becky (seriously, she was flown to someone's private island a few weekends before to do stains and painting in their hunting lodge) had originally picked out. So, three coats later the room was done ...

So glad that we agreed to spend some money redoing our own bedroom. This past weekend I had the brilliant idea to hang an extra curtain rod to make a fake headboard to use until we buy our king bed in the next few months.

Anyhow, back to painting weekend.  The girls' closet door turned pale pink ...

The old kitchen cabinet went from light pine to black cabinet ...

And the toy shelves went from dingy to shining "White Down." Since work and school are starting for everyone on Monday, this looks to be the end of my painting adventures for a while. It was fun while it lasted.
