celebrating 10 years

On January 4, 2013, Ashley and I celebrated 10 years of marital bliss. We made arrangements with CC for her to watch the girls, and we headed to New Orleans.  We left in the morning and drove around Baton Rouge to look at neighborhoods and to test what it felt like to drive. We've been spoiled, renting for the past 4 years quite close to campus. With school now close to being figured out for EB, it's time to buy. We spent a little over an hour driving to several neighborhoods and ruling several out. Then, we were on the interstate and headed for a night on our own.

We stopped first at Slim Goodies, a little diner on Magazine Street. After breakfast for lunch we walked for a bit, stopping at a few stores. This one was an inside garage sale - lots of good junk (and some things that we may have purchased ... Ashley is now regretting not getting the napkins).

After checking into the hotel and a good nap later, we got ready and headed to dinner. There is a wonderful restaurant called Herbsaint on St. Charles - local food and always what is in season.

The happy couple...

Apparently this was the "best" picture of the night...

It was a strange thing, watching whatever we wanted on TV (we switched between ESPN and HGTV), sleeping through the night ... certainly nice, but strange. We woke, rested and not quite ready to go home, and stayed until checkout time then left for a jazz brunch at Court of Two Sisters.

The food was good, the music enjoyable, and the company second to none. Ashley also liked the mimosa.

We decided at brunch to stay together, at least for another 10 years. Who knows, maybe the next 10 will go by as quickly and smoothly as the first decade. A decade. Wow. Happy Anniversary!!
