hurricane evacuation

On Monday, August 27, we decided to leave Baton Rouge for higher ground ... Isaac was coming; Jackson it was.

Although unplanned, it was a nice "vacation" (though both Ashley and I did have to work some). LSU was officially closed Tuesday through Thursday, and most activities were not active on Friday. Jackson barely got any rain.

Perhaps the highlight for Eden Brooks was Sugar ... they are quite cute together.

Lydia was entertained by Eden Brooks and me making faces at her from behind the glass door. Lydia also joined in, giving us kisses through the glass.

Many of our activities were the same as at home - reading books at night

going to the library for new books (for the kiddos and for us)

playing fun games like get in and out of the chair (and in and out and in and out and...)

and having fun outside.

labor day weekend

Although the Monday-Thursday trip was unplanned, we had planned to go to Jackson for Labor Day weekend. Eden Brooks was especially excited about meeting John Winters (she was waiting on the porch quite patiently).

Even a patient person rolls her eyes every once and a while.

the moment they met

Almost as soon as they arrived from the airport, E had convinced her Uncle Bebop that he wanted to go swimming with her. Well, honestly I don't think it took too much convincing. These two are going to have an awesome time in Disney come November ...

... like two kids in a candy store ...

On Sunday, Uncle Britton showed up with Aunt CoCo and Henry Winters. He ended up in the pool with Eden Brooks.

Perhaps foreshadowing things to come...

John Winters's baptism

The reason for our trip was to celebrate John Winters's baptism.

Most of the family was there ...

And Winters's hair did not disappoint.

One of Boston's friends, Chris, came in for the festivities. We are not sure why, but Eden Brooks really got attached to him ... we think it is because he watched PBS with her on Sunday morning while everyone else was getting ready. Whatever it was, she was all about Mr. Chris - sitting by him at church, walking with him, having him hold her, the works.

After the baptism, we headed to the Jones house for lunch (and dessert).
