everything is OK

Last weekend, I went on my first extended trip away from Lydia all the way to Oklahoma to see my sis and her hubby and to help get the nursery ready for Winters's arrival. It was an amazing trip ... busy, busy but with enough time to relax {must have been the fact that I could do anything at any time I wanted without stopping to help someone go the bathroom, go to sleep, feel better, stop fussing, change a diaper, ... .... ... }.

Anyhow, our first stop after I got off the plane in the city was the fabric store for all the material we needed for the nursery. Second stop was McAlister's to refuel, and our third stop was Target. We went up and down every baby aisle picking up the final neccessities.

On Saturday morning, the most amazing thing happened ... I got a one hour massage!!!! My birthday present from Whit and Boston, and it was amazing. Really, it was wonderful. Before that I actually got to finish a book I picked up at the airport {The Hunger Games ... I can see what the fuss is about}, and after that we got manicures and coffee.  A great morning of relaxing before the work began.

After lunch, I started sewing. Here's what I saw for a good part of the weekend ...

I did take a break to make dinner while I was there ...
Yes, after 9 years of being married to someone who does 99% of the cooking, my culinary skills are not that impressive. But, I did manage to make two meals -- gourmet grilled cheese with strawberry-almond-feta salad and breakfast of buttermilk pancakes with bacon. I'm going to have to be working on a new dish for my visit after Winters is born.

And then, I started sewing again.

and kept sewing and sewing and sewing ...

Hiro LOVED me all weekend and kept following me around. Too cute. We had lots of time for real conversations -- the kind that happen when you're actually in a room together. I think that in itself was the best part of the weekend. Finishing the crib bedding and curtains (with blackout liner) was a very close second. As might be expected, I finished hemming up the curtains just before we finished packing things up Monday morning to head to the airport.

I just wish I could stop by every weekend! Love you, sis.

  1. Love this! She is so lucky to have you as a big sis! I can envision a picture of Eden and Lydia sitting just like this 30 years from now :-)

  2. I'm pretty sure your sewing skills more than compensate for any perceived deficiencies in the kitchen. And besides, with men who cook so well (Brad is included in this category), it just doesn't seem right to keep them from practicing their talent! :)
