Chicago, Chicago

The weekend before Thanksgiving, Graham and I made our annual trip to the National Communication Association conference, this year in Chicago.

It was the best conference experience we've have to date -- lots of work, sessions, presentation but more importantly we got to spend each night together. We had a few dinners together, went to work and alumni parties, and got to catch up with old friends.

I think our favorite day and night was Saturday. I was done for the day earlier than Graham, so Maura, John, and their girls picked me up from the airport for an afternoon visit at their house, which meant FINALLY getting to meet Colin in person. I bribed the kiddos with gifts that apparently worked to get them to like me. Maeve, I promise to stay longer on the next visit!

Could these kiddos be any cuter?

After visiting at the house, we drove downtown for drinks and dinner with where we picked up Graham and Elizabeth, just missing Joshua to round out the crew. Took a few pics from the car ...

... and started the night at Trump Tower for drinks and appetizers at the bar which overlooked the river and the lighting of the Christmas lights parade and fireworks show. It was as if John and Maura planned the perfect Chicago night ;)

Dinner was at a fantastic Italian restaurant where you literally walked through huge swinging wooden doors into a candle-lit, loud and cozy dining room. We've certainly moved up from packed lunches in grad school.

On the flight home, we saw some souvenirs that the girls would love and thankfully had an uneventful flight back to Baton Rouge.
