At the end of November (the week before Thanksgiving) every year, Ashley and I go to our national conference for work. We started treating it partially as a family trip last year (Orlando). This year, it was held in Washington, DC - perfect for a five year old!
Waiting on the plane in Baton Rouge ...
Excited to be on the first of two planes that day ...
One of the best things about the conference is seeing people we only see once a year ... like our friends, the Rosiers. They had their twins when we were still in Indiana, and it has been fun watching them grow up.
EB was excited to be in a taxi, driving through the city ...
We arrived on Wednesday and had a chilled night. We ate dinner at a pizza restaurant in Georgetown. Then, the three of us slept soundly in our king-sized bed at the hotel. On Thursday, Ashley had something at 8 am, while EB and I explored the lobby and rest of the hotel. Around 9:45 we met and grabbed a cab to ...
... the White House. It was the first site EB said she wanted to see while we were in DC. "I want to see where the President lives."
After the White House, we met Nona, Big Daddy, and Aunt Beverly at our hotel and walked up the hill to the Zoo. After lunch we told EB, "Mom and Dad are going to have to go back to work soon. You're going to hang out with ... " Before we could finish our sentence, EB commented "Go. Go." I think she was excited to hang out, be spoiled, and have a great time.
They did the Natural History Museum (and we got to meet them there for lunch) ...
... Aunt Sarah and Uncle Robbie even drove up to share in the fun!
They did several other sites including the Smithsonian and rode the Subway. But the most exciting part (according to EB) was "Aunt Beverly's house! She has two whole rooms for art!" And she loved "her room" -- a bedroom that Aunt Beverly had redecorated just for EB.
On the trip back, she was excited to see us but also sad to leave ... I think we'll be making a trip back to Washington soon ... if for nothing else but to ride the moving walkway at the airport (which we rode for at least 15 minutes).
On the plane ride from ATL to BTR, she finally broke down. It was an exhausting but thrilling trip for sure!
