Our New House: The Kitchen

Here's the back door headed into the carport. The door on the right is the half bath and to the left is the laundry room ...

Here's the view from the couch/den looking into the kitchen eating area -- the little doors through the doorway on the right are the laundry room and that doorway leads to the back door ...

We found the kitchen table and chairs on Craigslist, and it ended up being from a lady who had just retired from LSU after working there for 49 years in the Registrar's office. I was so happy about the table and chairs because they are exactly like the set my Grandmama had in her kitchen AND my feet actually reach the floor when I sit in those chairs! My Grandmama was 5' tall, so I figured the chairs would work when I first saw them online.

Here's the view coming in the back door ...

One of my favorite areas in the house is what we are using as the girls' art space ... Just envision those two chairs in front of the window as a comfy loveseat or possibly two comfy upholstered chairs. That's my plan at least so I can sit in a comfy chair while Lydia has her early morning cereal ...

Another view coming in from the back door. My brother made the awesome growth chart "ruler" that is hanging on the wall!

We are really enjoying being able to all be in the kitchen together. Someday we might get bar stools but for now we're enjoying our current set-up.

Our New House: The Den

Well, we're now one month in to living at our new home. Here's the den on day one ...

And the den (what you all from Indiana would call the living room) today ...

Here's the view when you come in the front door ...

The wood floors were one of the things that sold us on the house.

Thankfully, CC and Whitney were able to be here during week one of being in the house and helped with a lot of the decorating.

The view from the couch looking to the front door, the kitchen is to the right ...

My favorite view of the dining room these days is looking at the doors -- it is currently our unpacked boxes room. Here's the view from the little chairs in the den looking to the front door. The girls love to look out the front doors trying to see their friends across the street ...

I am not ready for this.

*Since I'm a bit behind in posting pics, I'm not going to try to do every post in order. Oh well.

That is what I have been saying for the past week. On Father's Day, Lydia decided she all of a sudden wanted to sit on the potty. Up to this point, she has gone completely stiff bodied anytime we even mention the potty.

But last week she was singing a new tune ... "I pee pee, Mommy." Along with an actual new song -- "Squeeze the poo-poo out ..." -- forgive me if that's too much ;)

I told the nursery staff that she had found me in my bathroom that morning saying, "I pee pee, Mommy." Little did I know, she had actually taken her bloomers and diaper off on her own and was completely naked under her dress while telling me this!

When I picked her up from nursery, this sticker was on her back ...

... and I thought, "I am so not ready for this."

I really cannot decide at all if she's really ready. She's been saying she wants to sit, she's interested, she can tell me when she needs a diaper change -- I just thought we'd have an easy summer with diapers and a fully ok 5-year-old. Plus, I just don't want to try potty training just to have pee-pee accidents all the time. EB found this book at the library yesterday ...

I may decide to give it a real try this week. We may be rolling up all the rugs and pulling out the training panties soon. For now, we're just letting her sit when she wants and letting her wear pull-ups to make things a bit easier.

Weekend at the 147

In addition to the party, our weekend at the 147 also consisted of swimming. Even Lydia participated (and enjoyed every minute of it)!

HW's lips started turning blue, so he had to get out ...

... but Lydia could barely get enough of jumping off the side of the pool.

And this weekend also marked the first time EB jumped into the deep end off the diving board!

Overall, a rather relaxing summer weekend.

JW's First Birthday Party

On June 1, we helped Boston and Whitney celebrate John Winters's first birthday!

They had the party in Jackson so family and friends could join in on the fun ...

... which included several plates of goodies.

Whitney made bowties for everyone to wear -

and JW had his own special cake, which he consumed like a champion one-year-old.

EB helped consume goodies - her lunch consisted of 42 cookies and 16 glasses of lemonade.

Lydia slept through most of the party, but she did wake in time to take a few pics.

Henry Winters did his sleeping in the car ride from Oxford, so he was well rested for the party, though his cookie eating will have to wait a year.

Opening presents ... Lydia was extra helpful, pulling tissue and ripping paper.

Ashley taking EB's picture is sometimes met with resistance.

Fun with the front door windows.

Happy first birthday, John Winters!!! We were so happy to help you celebrate!
